Dripping

(an original in response to the iconic Langston Hughes)

A Dream Deferred 

Is half as clear as the 

Insipid visual directions for

Self assemble furniture.

The nebulous line drawing 

Spell confusion 

In every language.

It is the sound of a leaky faucet

Drip Drip Dripping 

In the middle of the night.

Daytime activity 

(Between the lines read: 

Distraction)

Drowns it out. 

But in the quiet 

Prayers 

The vacuous breath of 

Meditation

The subtle discontent 

Revealed in the last thoughts 

Before trading consciousness for sleep

"Is this the extent of it, is this Your good and perfect will for my life; if not this than what?"

It wafts

And beckons 

It taunts 

And haunts

It hints 

And nudges

A Dream Deferred 

Requires faith to 

Pursue it.

It asks for complete trust

It doesn't even attempt to earn it.

Like a good story a Dream Deferred 

Asks "what if ...?"

Actually it is a story

Waiting

Begging 

For you

To be brave enough to 

Write it.
